Te Tūranga | About the role
This role is worked for 20 hours per week, on Monday, Friday and Saturdays.
Monday 9-5pm (7 hrs); Fri 9-4:30pm (6.5hrs); Sat 9-4.00pm (6.5 hrs)
These shifts are fixed, so it’s important that you only apply if these days and times work for you.
We are recruiting now for a start date in early January 2026.
Modern libraries are community hubs which provide a variety of services to our diverse Tauranga community. We are looking for a Library & Community Hub Assistant who will welcome and assist community members to access library resources, programmes and events.
In this role the hours will be fixed each week, but the location may be either Tauranga or Greerton, depending on staffing need. There will be occasions when working at other Tauranga City Libraries will be needed.
There will be an initial 4 week training period of 4 x 7hr days per week, worked between Mon-Friday. Once trained, the successful applicant will take up their set hours of Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays.
Some of your tasks will include:
· Library duties including issuing, returning and shelving items
· Assisting with the promotion, booking and delivery of library programmes
· Recommending and discussing books with children and adults
· Connecting customers to our digital resources, such as ebooks, printing, and scanning
· Assisting with Council queries and payments
· Upskilling knowledge of Te Ao Māori, library databases, computer programmes, changes in technology, health and safety.
Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:
· Minimum of 3 years’ work experience, preferably in a library, community or customer service environment
· Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills
· Resilience when dealing with challenging customers and situations.
· The ability to communicate with people within our diverse Tauranga City community
