Te Tūranga | About the role
As the Programme Director, you will take charge of our five landmark projects under the Transport System Plan (TSP), ensuring their seamless delivery from planning through to completion. Reporting directly to the General Manager: Infrastructure, you’ll be leading a highly skilled team and working alongside key stakeholders such as NZTA and Regional Council to drive a transportation system that’s sustainable, functional, and ready for future growth.
Key responsibilities include:
- Strategic Leadership: Lead, inspire, and develop your team to achieve community-focused outcomes while fostering a culture of collaboration and excellence.
- Risk and Opportunity Management: Take proactive measures to identify, assess, and mitigate risks throughout the project lifecycle, ensuring smooth, commercially astute project delivery generating value for money.
- Project Integration: Oversee the successful coordination of major projects, including the Pāpāmoa East Interchange, Cameron Road Stage 2, Tauriko West Enabling Works, 15th Avenue to Welcome Bay and Connecting Mount Maunganui.
- Stakeholder Collaboration: Align with external partners such as, NZTA, Regional Council, Western Bay, Kiwi Rail and the Port of Tauranga to ensure integrated efforts across the region.
- Communication & Reporting: Present regular updates to the Chief Executive and key stakeholders, demonstrating political savviness, providing clear insights into project progress and overcoming challenges.
Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring;
- Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; advanced degree preferred.
- Extensive experience in project and programme management, particularly in overseeing large-scale complex infrastructure projects.
- Strong understanding of urban planning, transportation, and land use development.
- Proven track record in risk management and strategic planning.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
- Demonstrating political savviness with a proven track record of excellent presentation and delivery to governors’ boards, committees, and councils.
