Te Tūranga | About the role

Help build and support the technology foundations of a growing city.

Behind every application, digital service and customer interaction is a reliable, secure and high-performing technology environment. At Tauranga City Council, we're investing in the infrastructure that supports one of New Zealand's fastest-growing cities, and we're looking for a Systems Engineer to help us deliver it.

This is an opportunity to work across a diverse technology landscape spanning cloud and on-premise infrastructure, servers, storage, backup solutions, databases and enterprise platforms. You'll be part of a collaborative Digital Services team responsible for ensuring critical systems remain secure, resilient and available for the people who rely on them every day.

Whether you're improving performance, supporting infrastructure projects, helping maintain cloud environments or resolving technical challenges, you'll play an important role in enabling the technology that supports Council's operations and services.

  • Support and enhance modern cloud and on-premise infrastructure that underpins critical Council services.
  • Work across a broad technology environment including servers, storage, backup, databases and enterprise platforms.
  • Join a collaborative team that values innovation, continuous improvement and knowledge sharing.

Ngā Pukenga | What you'll need to succeed

You'll be someone who enjoys understanding how technology works and takes pride in keeping systems running smoothly. You're proactive, solutions-focused and motivated by solving complex problems before they become bigger issues.

To succeed in this role, you'll bring:

  • Experience supporting and maintaining enterprise infrastructure environments.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft technologies, cloud platforms and modern infrastructure services.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills, with the ability to identify issues and implement practical solutions.
  • The ability to work effectively across technical teams, vendors and business stakeholders.
  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • A commitment to delivering secure, reliable and well-supported technology services.

Most importantly, you'll be someone who enjoys learning, embraces new technologies and wants to contribute to an environment where technology plays a key role in supporting community outcomes.
