Baycourt Technical Assistant (Casual)

7 May 2026

Te Tūranga | About the role

Entertainment venue technicians are the hidden heroes of Aotearoa’s live events industry. From behind the curtain, they amplify the voices of our communities, shine the spotlight on remarkable local, national and international performers, and use their skills and passion to bring others’ creative visions to life.

Tauranga City Council has multiple casual positions available for Technical Assistants to join the Baycourt Community & Arts Centre team. In this role, you’ll support the safe and smooth delivery of events, with responsibilities including:

  • Setting up and operating lighting and sound equipment as required, and providing technical advice to clients to help meet (or exceed) event requirements.
  • Supporting clients to achieve a realistic vision for their event through practical, creative technical solutions.

Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed

In addition to being competent to set up and operate theatrical technical equipment, we’re looking for someone who has:

  • Proven experience in audio/AV/lighting and/or theatrical flying
  • Strong ability and confidence to lead and support casual staff and contractors
  • Sound organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and prioritise tasks and initiatives from conception to completion
  • Ability to work on own initiative and within a team structure
  • Exceptional communication skills, both verbal and written
  • Digitally savvy, particularly in entertainment industry software and consoles
  • Working at heights or electrical qualifications would be a bonus

Whilst not essential, someone who has Local Government experience, or an understanding of the theatre/creative arts is desirable.

This is a perfect opportunity for someone who wants a job where no two days are ever the same, and who wants to contribute to the wairua, mana and vibrancy of the Tauranga Moana arts and culture sector.

The cherry on top? If successful you will join an innovative and dedicated team that delivers an exciting and varied programme of events presented by international, national and local companies and artists!
