Te Tūranga | About the role

We’re looking for someone who’s great at building relationships and passionate about making Tauranga a safer, more welcoming place for everyone.

As our Community Safety & Engagement Officer, you’ll work with local organisations, businesses, and community groups to support safety and wellbeing across the city.

This is a fixed-term role through to June 2026, perfect for someone who enjoys working with others and leading positive change.

What you’ll be doing

  • Work with groups like NZ Police, social services, and Mainstreet organisations to improve safety and collaboration in Tauranga.
  • Support safety programmes and events, like retail safety expos and workshops.
  •  Build confidence and resilience in our city retail areas through reliable and efficient engagement and support. Share advice and updates with Council teams and community partners.
  • Keep an eye on trends and issues affecting safety and wellbeing, and help plan for the future.
  • Identify opportunities to deliver great community outcomes in Tauranga Moana, while instilling confidence and pride within the community.
  • Make sure our safety plans and strategies are used and understood by everyone involved.

 

Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed

To thrive in this role, you’ll bring;

  • A relevant degree or equivalent experience.
  • At least 5 years working in community safety, stakeholder engagement, or a similar role.
  • Great communication and relationship-building skills.
  • Experience handling conflict and finding solutions.
  • A good understanding of Te Tiriti o Waitangi.
