Te Tūranga | About the role

This is a new role within Tauranga City Council’s Media Relations & Corporate Communications team, created as part of the evolution of our Communications & Engagement function.

We’re looking for a creative, curious, and hands-on Content Producer who can spot a great story, find the human angle, and bring it to life.

Reporting to our Strategic Content Lead, you’ll help us tell the stories of our city and Council in ways that are clear, engaging, and relevant to the people of Tauranga.

This isn’t a role where you’ll spend every day behind a desk waiting for a brief. We want someone who is prepared to get out across the city, meet people, ask great questions, and uncover the stories worth telling.

One day you might be filming behind the scenes of a major city project, the next interviewing someone delivering an important community service, capturing photography at an event, or creating social-first content that explains a complex Council issue in a way people can understand.

You’ll take stories from idea to execution – planning, interviewing, filming, photographing, writing, editing, and producing content across a range of channels.

Working alongside our Strategic Content Lead, media and communications specialists, project teams and people from across Council and our community, you’ll help us build a stronger pipeline of proactive content that shows what Council is doing, why it matters and the people behind the work.

Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed

We’re looking for someone who brings creativity, curiosity and a strong audience focus to their work.

To be successful in this role, you’ll bring:

• experience creating multimedia content for digital and social media channels
• strong videography, photography and editing skills
• confidence using tools such as Adobe Creative Cloud, or similar platforms
• great storytelling, writing and interviewing skills
• an eye for detail and the ability to make complex information easy to understand
• a proactive approach to finding content opportunities and shaping ideas
• experience working with different teams, communities or stakeholders
• the ability to manage multiple content pieces, deadlines and stakeholder needs at the same time
• a portfolio that shows your creative thinking and content production skills.

A qualification in communications, journalism, media, marketing or a related area would be helpful, but we’re also open to equivalent experience.
