Te Tūranga | About the role
As our Enterprise Data Manager, you’ll lead the development and implementation of data governance strategies, frameworks, policies and procedures that support the integrity, security and effective use of data across Tauranga City Council. This is a key leadership role within Digital Services, working across the organisation to strengthen data standards, improve data quality and help build a more data-driven culture.
In this role, you’ll:
- Lead enterprise data governance frameworks aligned to data strategy, policies, standards and regulatory requirements.
- Drive improvements in data quality, stewardship, lifecycle management, classification, retention and archiving.
- Establish and maintain an enterprise data catalogue to support data understanding, lineage, classification and usage.
- Work with teams across Council to define data ownership, stewardship and accountability.
- Promote data literacy, support communities of practice and help embed data-driven decision-making across the organisation.

Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring strong senior-level experience in data governance, data management and/or data quality management, with a proven ability to develop and execute enterprise-level data strategies in complex environments.
You’ll also bring:
- A relevant qualification in computer science, information management, data science or a related field.
- Strong understanding of data privacy regulations and security practices.
- Leadership experience, with the ability to manage, develop, influence and bring people with you.
- Excellent communication, collaboration and problem-solving skills.
- The ability to work across diverse business areas and translate complex data concepts into practical, organisation-wide outcomes.
Experience driving cultural change, supporting a data-driven culture, working with data architecture or modelling principles, or operating in large ERP environments such as SAP would be an advantage.
