Te Tūranga | About the role

We’re looking for someone who cares about the environment and wants to help make sure our city stays clean, safe, and healthy. As an Environmental Monitoring Officer, you’ll respond to reports of environmental issues, investigate what’s happened, and help make sure people follow the rules.

What you’ll be doing

  • Responding to environmental incidents and investigating what caused them.
  • Checking that people are following the rules in their resource consents.
  • Visiting sites, taking notes, and writing reports.
  • Working with other teams and the public to solve problems.
  • Keeping clear records and following set processes.

 

Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:

  • A qualification in environmental science, natural resource management, or a related field, or experience working in compliance, enforcement, or environmental monitoring.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to follow processes carefully.
  • Clear and confident communication skills – both written and verbal.
  • Good record-keeping habits and the ability to manage information accurately.
  • A practical, problem-solving mindset and the ability to work independently.
