Te Tūranga | About the role

This role is ideal for someone with planning experience who’s ready to take the next step and contribute to meaningful work that supports sustainable development and community wellbeing.

You’ll work across a range of planning activities—from processing resource consents to providing advice and supporting continuous improvement. You’ll collaborate with other teams, engage with customers, and help deliver planning outcomes that reflect the goals of our City Plan and the requirements of the Resource Management Act.

What you’ll be doing

  • Processing land use and subdivision consent applications
  • Reviewing building consents and contributing to PIMs under the Building Act
  • Providing planning advice to internal teams and external customers
  • Coordinating input from specialists like engineering and urban design
  • Supporting the Duty Planner service and responding to public enquiries
  • Identifying risks and helping manage Council’s responsibilities under the RMA
  • Contributing to process improvements and mentoring junior planners

 

Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed

To thrive in this role, you’ll bring:

  • A degree in planning, resource management, or a related field
  • Knowledge of the Resource Management Act and planning processes
  • Strong communication skills—written and verbal
  • Confidence working with a range of people and perspectives
  • A collaborative mindset and willingness to support others
  • A keen eye for detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving
