Te Tūranga | About the role

We’re offering a 12‑month fixed term opportunity to lead our Building Services Regulatory & Compliance function while the current Head steps into an external secondment.

This is a role where leadership really matters. You’ll lead through influence, build trusted relationships internally and externally, and set clear expectations around performance, service and decision‑making. You’ll balance regulatory rigour with a strong focus on relationships and customer service, supporting teams to do the right thing while maintaining confidence with our community and stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

  • Provide strong people and operational leadership across the Building Services regulatory and compliance functions
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with internal teams, customers and external stakeholders
  • Champion consistent, fair and customer‑focused regulatory decision‑making
  • Support managers and teams to lift capability, confidence and service delivery
  • Manage risk and escalations, providing clear direction on complex or sensitive regulatory matters

What we’re looking for

You’ll bring proven leadership experience in a regulatory or similarly complex, high‑accountability environment. You’ll be confident setting direction, making sound decisions within a legislative framework, and holding yourself and others accountable.

You’ll also bring:

  • The ability to lead through influence and build trust across the organisation
  • A strong customer service mindset, balancing regulatory requirements with fair and timely outcomes
  • Sound judgement when managing risk, escalations or complaints
  • Experience working within, or alongside, a Building Consent Authority or similar regulated environment
