Te Tūranga | About the role

As a Lease Specialist, you’ll support, manage and advise on a portfolio of property agreements that help deliver better outcomes for our community. You’ll make sure leases or rental agreements are accurate, compliant, and aligned with legislation, Council’s strategies and long-term plans.

This is a great opportunity if you enjoy relationship management, problem-solving and want to grow your career in property within a large, values-driven organisation.

  • Work across a diverse portfolio of commercial and community leases and residential properties
  • Prepare, negotiate, vary, renew and terminate leases and other property agreements
  • Build strong relationships with tenants, stakeholders and teams across Council
  • Contribute to process improvements and long-term planning for our property portfolio

Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:

  • A tertiary qualification in property, law, business, project management or equivalent experience
  • 3+ years’ experience in property management or legal administration, including lease project management and administration
  • Strong understanding of lease management, relevant legislation (including the Reserves Act) and negotiation
  • Confident communication skills and the ability to build constructive relationships with a wide range of stakeholders
  • A proactive approach and growth mindset, with a willingness to seek guidance and keep learning
  • Confidence with technology and systems, especially SAP and Excel
  • Residential property management experience would be advantageous, especially if you’ve managed mixed portfolios or worked directly with tenants and asset records

This role would suit someone already in commercial property, or someone with solid residential experience who’s ready to step into a more complex, portfolio-based environment.
