Te Tūranga | About the role
Build confidence into every digital experience.
The best digital products aren't measured by the features they release—they're measured by how reliably they perform when people need them most.
At Tauranga City Council, we're investing in modern digital services that support our people, our organisation and our growing city. We're looking for a Software Engineer – Quality Assurance who is passionate about quality, automation and continuous improvement, and who wants to play a key role in shaping how software is delivered across our Digital Services team.
This role goes beyond traditional testing. You'll work alongside software engineers, product owners and stakeholders to embed quality throughout the development lifecycle, helping ensure solutions are secure, reliable, scalable and fit for purpose before they reach production. Whether you're building automated tests, improving testing practices or identifying opportunities to strengthen delivery processes, you'll have a direct impact on the quality of digital services used every day.
If you enjoy solving problems, challenging assumptions and helping teams deliver better outcomes, this role offers the opportunity to influence quality across a diverse and evolving technology environment.
- Champion quality engineering practices and help embed quality throughout the software development lifecycle.
- Expand automation capability and influence the future of testing across Digital Services.
- Work alongside talented developers and stakeholders to deliver reliable, user-focused digital solutions.
Ngā Pukenga | What you'll need to succeed
You'll be someone who takes pride in delivering quality outcomes and understands that testing is as much about prevention as it is about detection. You're naturally inquisitive, detail-oriented and enjoy working collaboratively to improve products and processes.
To succeed in this role, you'll bring:
- Experience in software testing, quality assurance or quality engineering environments.
- Exposure to test automation tools, frameworks and modern testing practices.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify risks and opportunities for improvement.
- The ability to work effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- A continuous improvement mindset and a genuine passion for delivering great customer experiences.
- Most importantly, you'll enjoy working in an environment where collaboration, innovation and quality are valued equally, and where your expertise can help shape the future of digital delivery across Council.
