About the City Operations Team
Our team performs an essential role within the community. We maintain green spaces like reserves, walkways, gardens, sand dunes, playgrounds, and much more. In addition to that we maintain Tauranga City Council managed facilities and buildings. Our team is focused on providing an efficient and quality service, our purpose is to make Tauranga better.
Te Tūranga | About the role
We are on the lookout for a team member to build and maintain structures across the cities parks and reserves. We are looking for someone that is extremely practical, has common sense in spades, has a can do attitude and loves getting the job done.
This is a hands-on and physically demanding role. Structures work is varied and can include: installing signage and bollards, building a large variety of fences, maintaining and refreshing sand ladders/ seating/ picnic tables, boxing and placing concrete, maintenance of playgrounds, removal of graffiti, painting and cushion-fill renewal.
Our community really value reserves and parks and the assets within them, so we are looking for someone that takes real pride in their work and has an appreciation for quality.
We need proactive and passionate people that take health and safety seriously, that can work independently, that are reliable, that can adapt to changes to the plan as they happen and understand the importance of keeping the community (our customers) happy at all times.
- Hours are 7am to 3.30pm, 40-hour week (possibly earlier starts in the summer months).
- This role will be based out of our Owens Place Mount Maunganui depot and reports to the Supervisor of Structures.
- This is a full time and permanent role.
- A work vehicle will be included as will all tools. The vehicles however are not for any private use.
Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed within the City Operations Team
- Relevant experience in hard landscaping, carpentry or building.
- Relevant qualifications in the above fields, Level 3 or above is preferred.
- Honesty and integrity (this is critical).
- A genuine focus on Health and Safety and willingness to speak up.
- Physically fit and healthy with the ability to work outdoors on your feet all day.
- Technology savvy with the ability to use mobile apps and an ipad to track and report on work.
- Strong communication skills.
- A track record of being reliable and a team player but also effective working solo.
- A positive attitude and a willingness to listen and learn.
- A full clean NZ drivers licence.
- The ability to be a positive ambassador for TCC, interacting with all community members in a respectful and appropriate way.
- Ability to pass a medical and drug/ alcohol testing
