Summer Intern - Pollution Prevention

Te Tūranga | About the role

We’re looking for an intern to help run our annual industrial audit programme. You’ll work with local businesses to check how they manage their environmental impacts and help us follow up on any recommendations. This is a great opportunity to gain experience in environmental compliance, auditing, and community engagement.

 

What You’ll Do

  • Identify and contact industrial businesses in the target area to schedule audits.
  • Conduct audits, with initial support from the Pollution Prevention Officer.
  • Write follow-up letters outlining recommendations or outcomes.
  • Review last year’s audit results and follow up on any outstanding actions.
  • Assist in preparing the final report and present your work at the Summer Student Showcase.

 

Who We’re Looking For

You’re likely studying or recently graduated in environmental science or a related field. You’re probably someone who:

  • Communicates clearly and professionally
  • Is confident working with businesses and the public
  • Is organised and detail-focused
  • Enjoys both fieldwork and desktop tasks
  • Full NZ drivers’ licence

 

What You’ll Get

You’ll gain hands-on experience in environmental auditing and reporting, and work closely with council teams and local businesses. You’ll also have the chance to take part in a Community Work Day with other councils.
