Summer Intern - Stormwater

Te Tūranga | About the role

We’re looking for an intern to help improve how we inspect and manage stormwater outlets across Tauranga. You’ll support the development of a digital system using GIS to track inspections and ensure we meet environmental consent requirements. This is a great opportunity to apply your environmental knowledge and tech skills to a real-world challenge.

What You’ll Do

• Review and improve our stormwater outlet inspection form
• Undertake field inspections and record findings
• Assist with the enhancement of a GIS-based tool to track inspections
• Suggest improvements to make the process more efficient and accurate
• Support compliance with our stormwater management plan

Who We’re Looking For

You’re likely studying or recently graduated in environmental science or a related field. You’re probably someone who:

• Has some experience with GIS (ArcGIS preferred)
• Is confident using digital tools and Microsoft Office, data management and reporting
• Works well in a team and communicates clearly
• Is organised and enjoys solving problems
• Full NZ drivers’ licence

What You’ll Get

You’ll work closely with the City Waters team and gain hands-on experience in environmental monitoring and regulatory compliance. By the end of the internship, you’ll have helped shape a smarter way to manage stormwater inspections.
