Te Tūranga | About the role

Lead a team that supports good decision-making and strong relationships.

We’re looking for a confident and capable Team Leader to guide our Governance Services team. In this role, you’ll make sure Tauranga City Council and its Council-Controlled Organisations (CCOs) get the right support to make informed, legally sound decisions.

You’ll help build strong relationships, improve systems, and keep things running smoothly in a fast-paced, digital environment. You may also step in as Deputy Electoral Officer when needed.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Lead a team that provides governance support to Council and CCOs.
  • Make sure all processes follow the law and Council policies.
  • Help prepare agendas, minutes, and reports for Council meetings.
  • Build strong working relationships with elected members, staff, and CCOs.
  • Look for ways to improve how we work, especially using digital tools.
  • Support electoral processes when required.

 

Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed

To do well in this role, you’ll need:

  • Experience leading teams and working in governance or the public sector.
  • Good understanding of local government rules and decision-making processes.
  • Ability to understand, improve, and get the best out of the key digital systems used by the team.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A positive, solutions-focused attitude.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks in a busy environment.
