Te Tūranga | About the role

Are you a strong leader who cares about the environment and making a difference in your community? We’re looking for a Team Leader – Waste Minimisation and Engagement to guide a team working to reduce waste and support sustainable living in Tauranga.  This is a fixed-term role for two years to cover a secondment. 

In this role, you’ll lead a team of five people who run projects and programmes that help our community reduce waste. You’ll make sure our work supports Tauranga City Council’s Waste Management and Minimisation Plan and wider sustainability goals.

You’ll work with other teams, community groups, and organisations to support long-term change and help Tauranga move toward a circular economy—where resources are reused and waste is reduced.

Key responsibilities:

  • Lead and support your team to deliver waste minimisation projects.
  • Set clear direction and help plan our work.
  • Manage projects and make sure they’re delivered on time and within budget.
  • Support community programmes that encourage behaviour change.
  • Work with others across Council and in the community to support shared goals.

 

Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed

To do well in this role, you’ll need:

  •  Experience leading teams and managing projects.
  • Knowledge of waste minimisation, sustainability, or community engagement.
  • Experience with behaviour change programmes.
  • Strong communication and relationship-building skills.
  • A strategic mindset with the ability to turn ideas into action.
