Te Tūranga | About the role
Join our Finance team on a 6‑month fixed‑term contract and help keep Tauranga City Council’s financial systems running smoothly. We’re looking for two detail‑focused and customer‑centred people to support our transactional services, with a particular focus on banking and payment processing.
You’ll focus on daily banking activities, including processing payments, reconciling accounts, and resolving any mismatches. You’ll also support our wider revenue, rating and debt collection processes as needed.
What you’ll be doing:
- Downloading and allocating bank statement transactions to customer accounts
- Processing direct debits, automatic payments, NZ Post and credit card files
- Completing daily bank reconciliations and following up on unmatched items
- Supporting customers with payment queries and providing clear information
- Investigating unusual charges or payments
- Keeping our financial systems and databases up to date
- Helping test and implement system updates, and supporting users as needed
Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed
We’re looking for someone who enjoys accuracy, numbers, and problem‑solving. You’ll also be comfortable working with customers and providing clear, friendly explanations.
You will have:
- Experience in banking and reconciliations
- Experience in administration, call centres or customer‑facing environments
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to meet deadlines
- Good computer skills, including Microsoft Office
- A positive approach to customer service
- Strong numerical and analytical skills
- A logical and calm approach when working through issues
A relevant qualification at trade certificate or diploma level (or equivalent experience) is beneficial but not essential.
