Te Tūranga | About the role

As our Transport Systems Commercial Manager, you'll bring a commercial view to how Tauranga's transport network is run. You'll help make sure our parking, user-pays services and transport operations work for the people who use them every day.

You'll be part of our Transport System Operations team. The role is about influence and partnership rather than leading a large team. You'll work with colleagues across Council, regional partners, the business community, residents and industry peers to turn good information into practical, well-supported decisions.

In this role, you will:

  • lead the delivery of Tauranga's parking strategy, bringing together strategy, enforcement and implementation

  • review fees, charges and cost-recovery arrangements so services are fair, sustainable and in line with Council's funding policies

  • track demand, costs and service performance, and find ways to improve the customer experience and how the network works

  • give commercial advice on transport operations, contracts and how services are delivered

  • be the main contact for regional partners, the business community and interest groups on parking and user-pays matters

  • act as Council's spokesperson on transport user-pays and parking, including with the media

  • keep up with new parking trends and technology, and share learnings with other councils to keep Tauranga in line with best practice.

This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys connecting people, ideas and evidence to make a visible difference to how a growing city moves.

Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed

You'll be a commercially minded relationship builder who can explain complex issues clearly and bring people with you.

To succeed in this role, you'll bring:

  • a diploma or higher qualification in management, business administration or a related field, or equivalent experience

  • solid experience in commercial management, ideally at a senior level

  • an understanding of the Local Government Act and the Land Transport Act

  • strong stakeholder engagement and influencing skills, with experience building relationships both internally and externally

  • experience in community or customer communication, and confidence speaking to the media and in public

  • experience in parking operations, enforcement or policy development (highly beneficial).

You'll also show a commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi and to developing your understanding of te reo Māori, tikanga Māori, mātauranga Māori and meaningful partnership with tangata whenua.
