Te Tūranga | About the role
As an Assistant Library & Community Hub Leader, you’ll support the Library & Community Hub Leader to deliver a welcoming, safe and customer-focused hub experience. You’ll also step in to lead the site when needed, helping the team deliver great service across both library services and Council services.
This is a full-time position and will be based at Te Ao Mārama - Tauranga Library & Community Hub located at 91 Willow Street, the role is 40 hours per week worked Tues-Sat.
Prior to moving to the new site, the position will be based at He Puna Manawa, 21 Devonport Road.

Your day-to-day work will include:
- Supporting the team to deliver excellent customer service and consistent service standards
- Helping with rostering, resourcing, leave planning and day-to-day coordination
- Acting as the site lead when the Library & Community Hub Leader is away
- Supporting staff training and on-the-job coaching
- Helping manage customer enquiries and complaints, including de-escalation when needed
- Providing accurate information about Council services (for example rates, dog registrations, parking, bylaws, service requests)
- Supporting library services (programmes and events, reader recommendations, digital support such as e-books, printing and scanning)
- Supporting health and safety processes, including identifying risks and following safe work practices
- Building your understanding of Te Ao Māori, and working in a way that supports our Te Tiriti o Waitangi commitments
Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:
- At least 3 years’ experience in a library, customer service, community hub or similar environment
- A calm, confident approach and the ability to support others when things get busy
- Great communication skills and a genuine interest in helping people
- Confidence using a range of computer systems and learning new technology
- The ability to work with people from across our diverse community
- A relevant qualification (diploma level) in Library Studies, Information Management, Business (or similar) is preferred
