Te Tūranga | About the role

We’re looking for a qualified Electrician to join our Facilities team.

This is a hands‑on role where you’ll be out on site most days, keeping Tauranga City Council buildings safe, compliant, and running smoothly. You’ll be working across a mix of residential and commercial buildings, carrying out:

  • Fault finding and repairs
  • Planned and reactive maintenance
  • Lighting repairs and replacements
  • Minor electrical installations
  • Cable installation, termination, and testing

You’ll work independently, but you’ll be part of a supportive team that takes pride in doing the job properly and keeping people safe.

 

What else you need to know:

  • 40 hours per week, typically 7.00am – 3.30pm, some flexibility required, as certain sites aren’t always accessible during standard hours
  • On‑call roster: approximately 1 week in every 8 (on‑call allowance paid)
  • Based out of our Owens Place depot
  • Council vehicle, tools, and specialist equipment provided (strictly for work use only)
  • This role reports to the Supervisor – Facilities.

 

Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed

We’re looking for a qualified expert who takes pride in doing things properly and safely.

You’ll need:

  • To be a registered and licensed Electrician
  • A Level 4 Electrical qualification (or equivalent)
  • At least 5 years’ experience working on residential and light industrial jobs
  • IQP registration, or be willing to get and maintain it
  • A full, clean NZ driver licence

You’ll also need to:

  • Work safely and follow health and safety rules every day
  • Be comfortable working on your own and planning your jobs
  • Use a tablet or phone to log work and complete job records
  • Communicate clearly and treat customers and teammates with respect
