Te Tūranga | About the role
This role is worked for 38 hours per week, from Tuesday to Saturday
Tues 8.30am-5.30pm; Wed 8.30am-4.30pm; Thurs & Fri 8.30am-5.30pm; Sat 8.45am-4.15pm
As a Library & Community Hub Assistant you will welcome and assist community members to access library services (including physical and digital resources, programmes and events) and be the first point of contact for enquiries relating to Council’s services.
This role is primarily based at Pāpāmoa Library, providing excellent customer service to the community. Some of your tasks will include:

Providing information to customers about Council services, community engagement, bylaws, policies, and procedures across a range of council activities.

Library tasks including issuing, returning and shelving items.

Assisting with the promotion and delivery of library programmes.

Recommending and discussing books with children and adults.

Connecting customers to our digital resources, such as ebooks, printing and scanning.

Upskilling knowledge of Te Ao Māori, library databases, computer programmes, changes in technology, health and safety.
Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed
To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:

Preferably a minimum of 3 years’ work experience, preferably in a library, community or customer service environment.

Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills

Knowledge of popular IT programmes and devices

Physical fitness – you are on your feet most of the day!

Resilience when dealing with challenging customers and situations
-
The ability to communicate with people within our diverse Tauranga City community.

The ability and enthusiasm needed to help facilitate our children’s story time - Iti Pounamu.
