Te Tūranga | About the role
Based at both Te Ao Mārama - Tauranga Library and Te Ao Mārama – Greerton Library, this role is 28 hours per week worked over the following days and locations:

Monday 8:30 – 5:30       Greerton Library

Thursday 9:00 – 3:00      Tauranga Library

Friday 8:30 – 5:30             Greerton Library

Saturday 9:00 – 4:00       Tauranga Library

 

 

As a Library & Community Hub Assistant you will welcome and assist our community to access library services including physical and digital resources, programmes and events, and be the first point of contact for enquiries relating to Council’s services.

You will be working at both Tauranga Library and Greerton Library, providing excellent customer service to the community. Some of your tasks will include:

  • Providing information to customers about Council services, community engagement, bylaws, policies, and procedures across a range of council activities.
  • Library tasks including issuing, returning and shelving library items
  • Assisting with the promotion and delivery of library programmes
  • Recommending and discussing books and our collections with our community
  • Connecting customers to digital library resources, such as e-books, printing and scanning
  • Upskilling knowledge of Te Ao Māori, library databases, computer programmes, changes in technology, health and safety.

 

Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed

To succeed in this role, you’ll bring:

  • Minimum of 3 years’ work experience, preferably in a library, community or customer service environment
  • Outstanding customer service and interpersonal skills
  • Resilience when dealing with challenging customers and situations.
  • The ability to communicate with people within our diverse Tauranga City community
