Te Tūranga | About the role
We are looking for a new team member to join us, this role will work primarily on Mauao and surrounding areas. Mauao is a significant landmark with rich cultural and spiritual importance to our local communities, this role offers a unique opportunity to connect and care for this sacred Maunga/whenua
Responsibilities may include:
- Pest Plant control of the landscapes, via various control practices (hand removal, mechanical, other)
- Collaborate with team members and local communities to promote conservation efforts and cultural awareness.
- Maintaining a safe and enjoyable natural asset for the public to access daily.
- Planting and caring for native vegetation to restore natural habitats and preserve the cultural heritage and landscape of Mauao.
- Planning and carrying our works on site to set timelines, specifications and safe working practices.
- Establish and maintain relationships with local Tangata Whenua and assist where required.
Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed
- Understanding of Te Ao Māori and appreciation of cultural heritage site protocols.
- An appreciation and respect for the Maunga and the part it plays in our community.
- A strong interest in environmental conservation and sustainability.
- Ability to work outdoors in all weather conditions.
- High physical fitness and ability to perform manual labour.
- Excellent communication skills, use of mobile devices and app usage.
- Previous experience in horticulture or environmental conservation is required.
- Qualifications/training in Agrichemical use, small hands tools and mechanical tools a bonus.
