Te Tūranga | About the role
Due to additional workload, we’re on the lookout for an enthusiastic and motivated team player to join the Structures Maintenance side of our Walkways Team. If you enjoy hands-on work, being outdoors, and making a real impact in your community, this physically demanding role could be a great fit for you.
As part of our team, you’ll help maintain and build key Walkways assets, including the high-profile tracks of Mauao, Pilot Bay, Kulim Park, McLarens Falls, Johnson Reserve, and many others. In total, we care for over 116 km of walkways across the city – and we take great pride in every metre.
This role will be reporting to the Supervisor - Walkways.
What You'll Be Doing:
Your day-to-day work will be varied and rewarding, involving:
- Installing signage, bollards, and safety features
- Constructing and maintaining fences, bridges, platforms, steps, handrails, boardwalks, and retaining walls
- Boxing and placing concrete
- Removing graffiti and maintaining visual appeal
- Refurbishing tracks and replenishing aggregates
- Digging drains, culverts, and swales
Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed
- Experience in hard landscaping, carpentry, or construction
- Relevant certifications such as First Aid, Traffic Management, and ideally, a willingness to complete (or currently completing) a Landscape Construction Apprenticeship
- Bonus if you’re skilled in operating small diggers and hold Wheels, Tracks & Rollers endorsement
- Comfortable using smartphones and digital apps (e.g. Survey123, Maps, SuccessFactors, Damstra)
- A proactive learner with a positive, can-do attitude
- A strong work ethic with reliability, pride in workmanship, and a team-first mindset
- Commitment to health and safety, with the confidence to speak up when needed
- Physically fit and capable of outdoor work in all conditions
- A full, clean NZ driver’s licence
