City Operations – proudly delivering awesome community outcomes. The City Operations Team is a newly established division within Tauranga City Council, responsible for maintaining Tauranga’s green spaces and a portfolio of Council-owned buildings and assets. Currently consisting of 115 community-focused individuals, the team is poised for significant growth this year, expanding to over 160 team members as we take on additional services for the city.

Te Tūranga | About the role 

As part of an exciting new in-housing initiative, we are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Supervisor to launch and lead a brand-new team dedicated to maintaining the bathroom amenities across our city. This role offers the opportunity to make a real difference, ensuring our community members and visitors enjoy clean, hygienic and well-stocked facilities at all times and we all know how incredibly important that is!  

You’ll take a hands-on approach to empowering your team of 7 to deliver services efficiently and effectively, with a strong commitment to health and safety, stakeholder collaboration, and operational excellence.  

This position reports to the Team Leader – Facilities. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

People Management: Recruit, train and support the team. Manage employee performance through regular feedback. Manage resource levels ensuring there is always full coverage across the early and later shifts.  

Operational Leadership: Create a work plan that is effective and meets (or exceeds!) the set KPI’s. Liaise with asset owners to ensure alignment with stakeholder/ community needs. Coordinate stock delivery to employees so they are always armed with everything they need.  

Health and Safety: Ensure compliance with all workplace safety requirements (preform regular audits on quality, driver behaviour, adherence to schedule, adherence to safety practices). Promote a safety centric culture.  

 

Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed within the City Operations Team 

  • 5 years + supervising people to deliver positive outcomes. 

  • Significant people management experience is required including confidence in performance discussions.  

  • Natural problem-solving abilities and strong planning capabilities. 

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.   

  • Advanced computer skills.  

  • Full clean NZ drivers licence.  

  • Exposure to commercial cleaning, amenity cleaning our outdoor team management is preferred. 

  • Flexibility to work outside of typical work hours at times.
