Supervisor - Roadside Mowing
City Operations – proudly delivering awesome community outcomes. The City Operations Team is a newly established division within Tauranga City Council, responsible for maintaining Tauranga’s green spaces and a portfolio of Council-owned buildings and assets. Currently consisting of 115 community-focused individuals, the team is poised for significant growth this year, expanding to over 160 team members as we take on additional services for the city.

Te Tūranga | About the role
We are looking for a unique and dedicated leader to take charge of managing Tauranga’s roadside vegetation and ensuring the community remains safe as a result. This is a relentless and demanding task, involving mowing every roadside on an 8-week cycle, then starting again from the beginning! As the City Operations team transitions this service in-house, this role offers a unique opportunity to make a significant impact on the success of this newly formed team.
This position will present its challenges, but here are some of the key responsibilities:

Leading a team of 10 operators in delivering high-quality work, including mowing, edging, spraying, and more.

Managing all people-related aspects, such as performance management, recruitment, training, coaching, and inspiring the team.

Overseeing complex resource planning, scheduling, and route optimization.

Coordinating daily traffic management to ensure smooth operations.
This role reports directly to the Team Leader – Streetscapes.
Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed within the City Operations Team

Full clean Class 2 NZ driver's license ideally, or willingness to get it.

5 years + leading a complex operational open space management team or similar.

Great communication skills.

Strong computer skills.

A proven Health and Safety focus. Traffic management qualifications preferred/ strong working knowledge of CoPTTM and NZGTTM.
