We're building a passionate and skilled Sports Field Team to help ensure Tauranga’s playing surfaces are kept in optimal playing condition all year round. Our community highly values its sports fields and requires quick turn around of them to ensure all sporting codes have what they need.
Whether you’re experienced in turf care or keen to grow your skills in this area, this is your chance to be part of a team that keeps sport thriving in our city.
What You’ll Be Involved In:
· Surrounds Maintenance – ride-on mowing, weed trimming, leaf blowing, edging, and spraying
· Sports Field Mowing – using reel mowers, zero-turn, out-front, and Pegasus mowers
· Irrigation – installation and maintenance of both surface and sub-surface systems
· Field Layout & Line Marking – helping prepare fields for games and events
· Turf Care & Renovations / Technical Work – including rolling, topdressing, overseeding, verti-draining, scarifying and more
· Renovations / Renewals – Cricket wicket preparation, aerating, dethatching
What We’re Looking For:
· 2+ years’ experience in sports turf management or similar hands-on fieldwork
· Level 3 qualification (or higher) in Horticulture (Turf Management), or willingness to study towards it
· A Growsafe certificate (preferred)
· Basic knowledge of plant biology, soils, irrigation, artificial turf—or a keen interest to learn
· Confidence using turf machinery and tools—tractors, mowers, scarifiers, etc.
· A full, clean NZ Class 1 driver’s licence
· Comfort with using smartphones or tablets for job-related tasks
· Reliable, honest and a hardworking
The hours of operation are varied as a lot depends on events, sporting clubs game schedules, weather events, planned closures and the general health of the asset. Our team will work a minimum of 40 hours per week between 6am and 6pm Monday to Friday. Weekend work will be required from time to time depending on seasonal requirements.
