Te Tūranga | About the role

We’re looking for a proactive and community-minded Waste Services Officer – Public Spaces to help deliver high-quality waste services across Tauranga. This role focuses on litter bin servicing, litter control, illegal dumping response, and asset management—making a visible difference in the places we live, work, and play.

As part of our Waste Operations & Compliance team, you’ll:

  • Monitor and manage public litter bins to ensure timely servicing, maintenance, and replacement.
  • Conduct site inspections and audits of contracted services, using data to inform planning and improvements.
  • Optimise bin placement based on community needs and usage trends.
  • Respond to litter hotspots and illegal dumping reports, coordinating with contractors and community groups.
  • Support enforcement actions in collaboration with the Bylaws team.
  • Engage with stakeholders and the public to promote responsible waste behaviour and environmental initiatives.

 

Ngā Pukenga | What you’ll need to succeed

To succeed in this role you’ll be someone who’s organised, solutions-focused, and confident working independently. You’ll also have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Waste Operations, Environmental Management, or Contract Management.
  • 3+ years’ experience in waste operations, environmental services, or a related field.
  • Strong problem-solving and organisational skills.
  • Advanced MS Office skills and the ability to quickly learn new systems.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, especially when managing sensitive customer interactions.
  • A current full NZ driver’s licence.
  • Flexibility to support other team members when needed.
